Gilbert Ranch

IMG 0539 SmallGilbert Ranch - Resident Camp

A real western adventure for Webelos Scouts

The first thing boys coming home from the ranch talk about is riding horses. Gilbert Ranch is a working
horse ranch just south of Molalla, Oregon with year-round camping and horse rides. Each summer the
ranch opens for a few weeks as a camp for Webelos, primarily first-year Webelos.

Boys are immersed in the Ol’ West from the moment they arrive on Main Street, a recreation of a western town, complete with a general store and restaurant. The buildings are, in fact, the camp dining hall, office and trading post cleverly disguised in a centerpiece for boys’ imaginations. They’ll believe they’re cowboys right along with the costumed staff, and after those first exciting moments on the ranch, the fantasy just gets better.

Kids love horses and at Gilbert Ranch they get to ride some of the most gentle horses around. Many
a smile is seen on boys’ faces as they trot down the trail during their three-day stay.

There are lots of other activities as well, including a frontier area where staffers help recreate what life in pioneer days must have been like. Boys get to see barnyard animals up close, learn how a garden supported families, and even get to hand scrub dirty
ol’ socks as they learn how clothes were washed before the advent of electricity.

Gilbert Ranch is a unique camp close to the metro area that boys will remember for years to come.
